‘Seniang’ destroys P53-M fish cages in Northern Mindanao
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – Typhoon Seniang left some P53 million worth of damage in Northern Mindanao’s fish industry, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said on Saturday.
Asuncion Maputol, BFAR assistant regional director, said the typhoon, which devastated the region last December, affected 31 investors and displaced nearly a hundred workers.
The BFAR is working with the Balingasag municipal government in Misamis Oriental for the rehabilitation of the fish cages.
The BFAR Region 10 office will procure nets amounting to P11.89 million and fingerlings.
The investors will shoulder the cost of bamboo and plastic drums for the reconstruction of the cages, as well as the labor cost and fingerlings.
