MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has provisionally approved a P0.50 fare reduction of public utility jeepney (PUJ) minimum fare from P8.50 to P8 in Region 4 due to a series of diesel prices rollback.
The minimum fare reduction covers the first four kilometers, with the fare rate for the succeeding kilometer increasing by P0.10 from P1.50 to P1.40.
Persons with disability, senior citizens and students in the region will continue to receive a 20-percent discounted fare rate.
The board, after carefully evaluating all the comments and petitions of various transport groups in Region 4, decided to provisionally reduce the minimum PUJ fare after a petition filed by Negros Oriental Rep. Manuel Iway on Oct. 22, 2014.
Iway is a former member board member of LTFRB.
"We believe that the effect of the series of oil price rollback in the world market must also benefit our people in Southern Tagalog," Ginez added.
Prices of diesel had already dropped nine consecutive times bringing the accumulated total net decrease to an average of P9.70 per liter.
Last month, the Board also ordered a P 0.50 PUJ fare rate reduction in Regions, 2, 6, 7 and 10.
