Cop, amok slain in mall shooting

LAGUNA, Philippines – A police officer was shot dead by a man who ran amuck at a mall in Sta. Rosa City here yesterday.

Police Officer 1 Ariel Abordo died at the scene, while the suspect, who has yet to be identified, was also shot and killed by his companion, Police Officer 3 Igresol Reynante.

Abordo and Reynante were responding to reports that a man had run amuck near a shopping mall in Barangay Tagapo at around 1 p.m., city police chief Superintendent Pergenito Bong Malabed said.

The suspect reportedly grabbed the gun of one of the mall’s security guards and threatened to shoot customers.

The suspect shot at the police officers, hitting Abordo. Reynante retaliated, killing the suspect.
