3 hurt in S. Kudarat grenade blast

ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat, Philippines – Three persons, including a man who reportedly hurled a grenade, were wounded in the resulting explosion that ripped through a public market here Monday night.

Rahid Pangilamen suffered shrapnel wounds in the body after the grenade that he hurled at the Isulan public market hit a table, rolled toward him and went off, said Senior Superintendent Rex dela Rosa, Sultan Kudarat police director.

The other injured victims were identified as Mylene Vargas and a boy.

 Dela Rosa said Pangilamen is fighting for his life at a hospital while Vargas and the boy were declared out of danger.

Police have yet to determine the motive for the attack.

Meanwhile, a farmer was wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) reportedly planted by Abu Sayyaf bandits exploded in Sumisip town, Basilan yesterday morning.

Hamirun Mingkong was on his way to his farm in Barangay Guiong when he stepped on the IED at around 8:30 a.m. said Senior Inspector Alchmad Alibonga, town police chief.

Mingkong was rushed to a hospital for treatment. – With Roel Pareño
