6.2-magnitude quake jolts Bicol region
MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude-6.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Catanduanes and shook several areas in the Bicol region on Monday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its latest update this morning, Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded 91 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes at 11:13 p.m.
The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 3 kilometers.
The tremor was felt as Intensity V (strong) in Gigmoto, Catanduanes while Intensity IV (moderately strong) was recorded in Virac.
It was felt as Intensity III in Panganiban, Catanduanes, Sorsogon City, Legazpi City and in Irosin and Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon.
Intensity II was recorded in Naga City, Masbate City and Quezon City while Intensity I was felt in Manila.
Phivolcs said damage and aftershocks can be expected from the quake.
