BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – A 230-kilovolt transmission line project from San Esteban in Ilocos Sur to Laoag City in Ilocos Norte is underway to feed power generated by wind farms in Ilocos Norte to the Luzon grid.
The 230kV line is in addition to the existing 115-kV line from the San Esteban sub-station to the Laoag City sub-station, said National Grid Corporation of the Philippines North Luzon public affairs officer Lilibeth Gaydowen.
“Aside from using the line to transmit wind power generations to the grid, it is also used in immediate shifting of power load in case of unscheduled power interruptions,” Gaydowen said.
The construction of the 230-kV line started in 2013 and will be completed and operational by the end of the year.
