Woman killed, 1 wounded in Basilan bomb blast

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A woman was killed while another was wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) was set off in a remote village in Sumisip, Basilan yesterday, according to security officials. 

Mannah Jallama, 25, died at the scene while her niece, Sopia Abduhu, was wounded, according to Sumisip police chief Senior Inspector Achmad Alibonga. 

Investigation showed the IED exploded in Sitio Bato Piat in Barangay Limbo Candis at around 8:30 a.m.

Meanwhile, three civilians were wounded when responding members of the Special Cafgu Active Auxiliary engaged suspected Abu Sayyaf militants who ambushed them.

The Joint Task Group Basilan under the 104th Army Brigade reported that the firefight lasted a few minutes before the suspects fled toward an unknown direction.

 Military troops are pursuing the suspects.
