ILOILO CITY, Philippines – The government of Italy has committed P26 million in financial assistance for victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda in Iloilo.
The post-Yolanda aid was provided under a memorandum of agreement signed recently by Ambassador Massimo Roscigno and Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor to ensure the recovery of Ilonggo typhoon victims.
The amount is on top of Italy’s P53-million donation to the Philippines to help Yolanda-devastated provinces recover.
Part of the aid, which will come mostly in the form of livelihood projects, will also be given to affected communities in Tanauan, Leyte and Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
The provincial government said the assistance will be used to purchase agricultural and fishery equipment, which would be donated to agricultural cooperatives.
Defensor said Roscigno’s wife, Agnes, is an Ilongga from Mina town.
