DAVAO CITY, Philippines – At least P1.25 million has been earmarked by the government for the improvement of a trail leading to Mt. Apo’s peak in Davao del Sur, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources said over the weekend.
The project aims to support eco-tourism programs in Barangay Sibulan, Sta. Cruz town, one of the trails used in going to Mt. Apo.
The DENR said the amount will be used for two infrastructure projects that would include a tourist information center and a wash-up area for the mountaineers, and installation of signs along the trail.
The projects also aim to provide livelihood to Sibulan porters and protect Mt. Apo Natural Park.
