MANILA, Philippines - The Sandiganbayan sentenced former Romblon town mayor and another local executive to eight years in jail for graft over the "ghost" deliveries of hogs in 1991.
The anti-graft court also ordered Looc Mayor Manuel Arboleda and Municipal Planning and Development coordinator Fermina Gaytano to pay the fine of P3,000 each for Falsification of Public Documents case.
In a decision, the tribunal found Arboleda and Gaytano guilty of falsifying the contents of the Report of Inspection and Deliveries to make it appear that actual deliveries of piglets were made to facilitate payment for the transaction worth P20,000.
Ombudsman prosecutors were able to present evidence that no actual deliveries had been made for the deal.
