MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck Sarangani in Davao Occidental on Wednesday afternoon.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake struck at 29 kilometers northeast of Sarangani town at 1:20 p.m.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, was felt at Intensity 4 in General Santos City and Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental.
It was felt at Intensity 3 in Davao City; Digos City, Davao del Sur; Alabel and Kiamba, Sarangani; Tagum, Davao del Norte and Intensity 2 in Kidapawan City .
Phivolcs said it is expecting aftershocks.
Earlier, Phivolcs recorded a magnitude 5.5 earthquake at 70 kilometers southwest of Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat. It struck at 4:33 a.m.
The quake's depth was 620 kilometers, too deep to be felt by the residents in the province and surrounding areas.
