LTFRB cuts PUJ fare in Northern Mindanao by P.50

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star
MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Wednesday ordered the provisional reduction of P0.50 to public utility jeepney (PUJ)  minimum fare from P7.50 to P7 in Northern Mindanao (Region10) due to a series of diesel prices rollback.

The minimum fare reduction only covers the first four kilometers, with the fare rate for succeeding kilometer remained the same.

Meanwhile, the discounted minimum PUJ fare for persons with disability (PWDs), senior citizens and students in the region will also be reduced from P6 to P5.50.

The Board decided to provisionally reduce the minimum PUJ fare in Region 1 after a public hearing was held in the region last January 7-8.

Region 10 comprises the provinces of Camiguin, Misamis Oriental including Cagayan De Oro City, Lanao del Norte, Bukidnon and Misamis Occidental

"Sa pakikipag-usap ng aming regional office sa mga transport groups, nagrecommend si Regional 10 Director Mandangan Darimbang na magpatupad ng bawas-pasahe sa Northern Mindanao," LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez said.

"We believe that the effect of the series of oil price rollback must also benefit our people in Northern Mindanao by reducing the minimum PUJ fare in their area," Ginez added.

Earlier this week, major oil companies implemented a P1.25 per liter rollback in gasoline and P1.45 per liter cut in diesel prices.  The latest rollback is the third consecutive price cut this year.

Ginez said they have ordered all regional directors to conduct public hearing in their respective areas to assess the impact of the continuous drop in fuel prices to public utility vehicles operators and the commuters.
