MANILA, Philippines - A P68-million rehabilitation project for victims of Typhoon Ruby in Borongan, Eastern Samar is underway.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said some 17,547 individuals from 61 barangays would benefit from the Cash-for-Building-Livelihood Assets “restoration” project.
The initial set of beneficiaries will come from Barangays Sohotan, Bayubay, San Gabriel, Maybacong and San Pablo.
Under the project, beneficiaries will be engaged in the repair of small infrastructure facilities, dredging of canals and cleanup of rivers for P260 per day or P3,900 for 15 days.
DSWD Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman said beneficiaries would be provided a temporary source of income while the government prepares to implement more sustainable recovery and rehabilitation projects.
A community assembly was held on Monday to determine the next set of barangay beneficiaries.
Only one member of an affected family, who is at least 18 years old and in good physical and mental condition, is eligible to be part of the income-gene-rating venture.
