Blasts rock NGCP tower in Maguindanao

MANILA, Philippines - Explosions rocked the tower of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Maguindanao Tuesday night, causing more than two hours of blackout in the province and North Cotabato.
No one was hurt during the blasts at the NGCP tower no. 26 in Barangay Galakit, Pagalugan,Maguindanao.
Capt. Jo-Ann Petinglay, spokesperson of the Army's 6th Infantry Division, said that the explosions happened around 9:10 p.m. , destroying the three posts of the tower.
She said that the initial post-blast investigation of Explosive and Ordnance Division showed that three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were placed at the posts which were simultaneously detonated, causing the tower to fall.
Investigators recovered from the area metal fragments of 81 mm. and 60 mm. mortar, cellular phone phone parts, and nine volts battery.
Maj. Gen. Edmundo Pangilinan, 6th ID commander, has ordered to immediately provide security and any form of support to the NGCP personnel who will be repairing the tower.
