Capiz blast leaves 2 dead

ILOILO CITY, Philippines – Two persons were killed while 15 others were wounded when a grenade exploded near a public elementary school in Pontevedra, Capiz shortly after noon yesterday.

Seven-year-old Czarina Rose de Mayo was declared dead on arrival at the nearby Bailan District Hospital.

The other victim, a man who was allegedly holding the grenade, died at the scene, said Senior Superintendent Ulysses Caton, Capiz police director.

As of press time, the man’s body remained at the blast site in Barangay Lantangan and was yet to be examined by crime scene investigators.

Among those wounded were Gimboy Animay, Jerry Boy Berdona, Angelyne and Edmar Borlado, Eman Dapat,John Rey and John Mark Degala, Orly de Guzman, Ariel and Daniel de Mayo, Meynard Detarro, Antonio Monteagudo, Reymart Mutia and Mark Jun Madelo.
