Bullet for parents hits toddler

Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A two-year-old girl is fighting for her life at a hospital after she was hit by a bullet believed meant for her parents in Bacnotan, La Union Saturday.

Princess Wenica Vien Valdez and her parents, Wendell and Angelica, were on their way home in Barangay Sta. Cruz when an assailant, whose face was covered with a bonnet, opened fire at them.

One of the bullets hit the toddler’s back and exited through her stomach, Police Officer 3 Miluvis Almoite said.

The gunman’s target could be either Wendell, who is a seaman, or Angelica, a businesswoman, he added.

The gunman fled on a motorcycle driven by another man. Police recovered three bullet shells for a caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene.

Police have yet to determine the motive for the attack.
