Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Fighting erupted yesterday between government security forces and Abu Sayyaf bandits who attacked civilian volunteers in Talipao, Sulu.

Akmad Aburan, a volunteer of a village peacekeeping team, was wounded in the attack that occurred at around 6 a.m. in Barangay Kiyutaan, the military said.

Col. Alan Arrojado, commander of the Joint Task Group Sulu (JTGS), said about 30 bandits harassed the volunteers led by Talipao Councilor Lakim Uddin.

Arrojado said the bandits were led by Angga Adji and Roger Saji.

He said the gunmen retreated toward the mountain in nearby Barangay Bungkaong, Patikul town.
