Negros poll body bracing for SK polls
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Provincial election officers in Negros Occidental are getting ready for the Sangguniang Kabataan elections amid questions on whether the SK polls would push through.
Jessie Suarez, provincial elections supervisor, yesterday said they are preparing the list of SK voters and of teachers who would serve during the polls.
Although the schedule for the SK elections has been released, moves to postpone it and to abolish the SK remained.
The SK polls will be held on Feb. 21 and the 45-day election period will start on Jan. 22.
Suarez said the filing of certificates of candidacy would be from Feb. 7 to 10. The campaign period will be from Feb. 11 to 19.
He said the province, including this capital city, has 80,756 youth voters.
Bacolod City has the highest number of SK registrants in Negros Occidental at 6,429 followed by Kabankalan with 4,803; Bago, 4,682; Cadiz, 4,263, and Silay, 3,325.
Suarez said the election paraphernalia would be delivered next week.
