Arab youth drowns in La Union
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A Saudi Arabian teenager drowned last Friday while swimming with friends at a coastal village in San Juan, La Union.
San Juan chief of police Senior Inspector Regelio Miedes said the victim was identified as Amgad Faez Abdullah Qasem, 16, of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, who is also a resident of Brookside, Baguio City.
Investigators said strong waves carried the victim to the open sea off Barangay Urbiztondo.
Local rescuers recovered Qasem’s body, which was brought to a morgue. Relatives have yet to claim the victim.
The accident was reported to the Saudi Arabian embassy in Manila.
Meanwhile, authorities also recovered the body of another drowning victim, Carlos Pudyamat, along the shores of Barangay Cabasican, Bacnotan.
