MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) — A naked dead body of a woman was fished out of the Marikina River yesterday morning.

Marikina City Police chief, Sr. Supt. Vincent Calanoga said the body of the still unidentified woman was found floating on the river at Barangay Dela Peña at about 8:45 am.

Calanoga said the victim with short hair, appears to be between the ages of 35 to 45. The body, Calanoga said, did not have any wounds or any distinctive markings.

Police said the body was discovered floating in the river by vendors of a flea market on the river’s banks.

It was not the first time a dead body was found floating the river.

In 2007, the body of Roger Lagarto, 19, was found by a Parks Development Office employee near the restaurants at the Marikina Riverpark in Santo Nino Village.

That same year, the remains of Jeremias Jaruda III, also a college student, was found in the river and was suspected to have perished three to five days before he was found.

A dead woman was also found in the river in 2009. - with Mike Frialde
