MANILA, Philippines - Makati police arrested a security guard for reportedly firing his service revolver while on duty on New Year’s Day.
Chief Inspector Shirley Bao, chief of the Makati Police criminal investigation section identified the arrested security guard as 38-year old Michael Sobrepeña.
Initial investigation showed that Sobrepena was at his post at the Valero Plaza building in Salcedo Village when a certain Peter Timbol reportedly saw him firing four shots from his .38 caliber revolver at about 12:05 a.m. at the building’s fire exit area.
Police said Timbol then sought the help of another security guard and together approached Sobrepeña.
When confronted, Sobrepeña denied firing his service revolver. After a heated argument, Sobrepeña was eventually disarmed of his service revolver and was turned over to the Makati Police.
Police said Sobrepeña is now facing complaints for alarm and scandal and indiscriminate firing before the Makati City Prosecutors Office.
