Ben Serrano - The Philippine Star

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – A fire destroyed the office of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur and 25 vehicles early yesterday.

Police said the fire started when revelers lit firecrackers near a firecracker store beside the DAR provincial office.

“Some of the firecrackers hit the curtains in the office and burned office equipment, including computers and other fixtures. The fire spread to the parked vehicles,” San Francisco police chief Superintendent Rodel Roquita said.

He told The STAR the fire started at around 1:36 a.m. and was put out two hours later.

A Toyota pickup, a Starex van and motorcycles owned by the DAR office were among the destroyed vehicles. Two privately owned vehicles were also burned.
