SPD records 1 case of stray bullet shooting since Dec. 16
MANILA, Philippines - The Southern Police District (SPD) on Wednesday said only case of stray bullet shooting has been reported as of Wednesday morning since monitoring began last December 16.
SPD spokesperson Superintendent Jenny Tecson identified the injured victim of the stray bullet as Antonette Bahar, 37, a resident of Aguirre St., South Signal Village, Taguig.
Bahar was hit by the stray bullet at about 12:30 a.m. last December 24, police said.
Bahar was rushed to the nearby Taguig-Pateros District Hospital for emergency treatment.
According to initial police investigation, prior to the shooting, relatives of the victim heard a commotion outside the gate of their house.
When the victim and her relatives went out to find out what the commotion was about, a gunshot rang out. Suddenly, the victim fell to the ground with a bullet wound in her left abdomen.
Responding police officers are still conducting follow-up operations for possible identification and apprehension of the suspect, Tecson said.
Meanwhile, a crackdown by the SPD which covers the cities of Taguig, Makati, Pasay, Parañaque, Muntinlupa and Las Piñas, has yielded various illlegal firecrackers.
Tecson said most of the illegal firecrackers were seized by police from the Palar Market, in New Lower Bicutan, and at the Maharlika Village, all located in Taguig City.
