MANILA, Philippines - Five persons were killed in separate stabbing and hacking incidents in Pangasinan and Capiz on Christmas Day, police reported yesterday.
Mauro Estacio, 51, was killed in the first incident which occurred in Barangay Barat in Umingan, Pangasinan.
Initial investigation showed that Mauro was sleeping in his room at around 5 a.m. when his brother Jaime, who was allegedly drunk, hacked him several times.
Mauro died while undergoing treatment at the Umingan Community Hospital.
In Barangay Pinmaludpod, Urdaneta City, Rod Dionez, 32, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Urdaneta District Hospital from multiple stab wounds.
Initial investigation showed that Dionez was planting rice when Ferdinand Marzan, 28, who was armed with a bolo and another bladed weapon stabbed him repeatedly.
On Christmas Eve, Danilo Ramos, 43, was declared dead on arrival at the Bayambang District Hospital due to hack wounds.
Loreto Adan, 37, allegedly stabbed Ramos after a heated argument during a drinking spree.
Meanwhile, Allan Bagos, 22, was rushed to the Infanta Rural Health Unit after Jose Norberte allegedly stabbed him at around 6:30 p.m. in Bautista town.
In Barangay Primicias, Danny Castillo, 38, allegedly stabbed Rodolfo Llenas, 64, with a 36-inch bolo after a heated argument.
The suspects have been arrested.
Man hacks mother, nephew
In Capiz, a man allegedly hacked dead his mother and nephew in their house in Barangay Caid-Quid in Mambusao town.
The victims were identified as Amanda Delicano, 65; and her grandson Ronick, four.
Charlie Delicano, 36, who is reportedly suffering from a mental illness, hacked the victims while they were sleeping a few hours after his mother told him that she did not buy him any Christmas gift.
Senior Superintendent Ulysses Caton, Capiz police chief, said Delicano was detained at the Mambusao police station.
