Rainy Christmas due to cold front, northeast monsoon

MANILA, Philippines — Many parts of the country including the capital region will experience light to moderate rains this Christmas, the state weather agency said.

In a 5 a.m. advisory on Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) noted the trailing end of a cold front affecting Southern Luzon.

The northeast monsoon, meanwhile, will continue to affect Northern and Central Luzon in the next 24 hours.

Metro Manila and the regions of Calabarzon, Eastern Visayas, Davao Soccsksargen as well as the provinces of Mindoro, Romblon and Marinduque will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Cagayan valley, Cordillera and Central Luzon are expected to have light rains, while the Ilocos region will be cloudy with isolated light rains.

The rest of the cuontry will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.

PAGASA also noted moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast that will prevail over the whole archipelago with moderate to rough seas.

The agency's extended weather outlook also forecast partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila from December 25 until the weekend within the Christmas Octave.
