LPA dissipates but rains remain over Visayas, Luzon

MANILA, Philippines - The low-pressure area (LPA) spotted east of the Visayas dissipated yesterday but rains are still expected in parts of Luzon and the Visayas until today due to the tailend of a cold front and the northeast monsoon, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Metro Manila, the Bicol region, Calabarzon, Panay Island and the provinces of Aurora, Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon would experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

It said Cagayan Valley, the Cordilleras and Ilocos Region would be cloudy with light rains.

The rest of the country would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA said it expects the formation of another LPA east of Mindanao early this week.

The weather bureau reiterated its warning against big waves in the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon in the next 24 hours due to the surge of the northeast monsoon.

The agency said Batanes, Calayan, Babuyan, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos provinces, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Camarines provinces, Catanduanes and the eastern coast of Albay, Sorsogon and Quezon, including Polillo Island, would have rough to very rough sea conditions.

PAGASA said waves as high as 3.4 to 4.5 meters are expected in these areas.
