BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Health officials in Western Visayas reminded the public over the weekend to avoid eating too much during the holidays.
Officials said people should particularly avoid taking foods that are high in cholesterol.
In a press conference here last Friday, Elvie Villalobos and Joji Jimenez, both of the Department of Health office in Region 6, said everyone should be cautious in their food intake during Christmas parties.
“High-cholesterol food causes high blood pressure and clogs our blood vessels. Taking little is enough and avoid overeating,” Jimenez said.
Villalobos reminded everyone to always observe cleanliness in food preparation.
“Separate raw from cooked ones. Cook food thoroughly to avoid spread of bacteria,” she said.
Villalobos said unsanitary food handling often results in illness.
