Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A fire of unknown origin destroyed a regional office of the Department of Education (DepEd) and two school buildings here at noon yesterday.

The blaze reportedly started on the second floor of a DepEd building located at the corner of San Jose and Normal streets.

The building also houses a satellite office of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

City fire marshal Senior Superintendent Dominador Zabala Jr. said the fire spread to a two-story classroom of nearby Western Mindanao State University (WMSU).

He said the fire destroyed at least P2 million worth of property.

A DepEd employee was reported injured when she tried to save documents and equipment.
