MANILA, Philippines - Police hauled to jail an official of the Caloocan City local government unit caught receiving "grease" money in Quezon City on Wednesday.

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) collared Norberto Cruz when he received the P73,000 bribe money from a complainant inside a mall in Quirino Highway in Barangay Pasong Putik, Novaliches.

CIDG head Director Benjamin Magalong said Cruz initially demanded P60,000 from the complainant in exchange of the release of the latter's building permit.

However, Cruz did not process the requested permit and instead demanded another payment for the issuance of the document.

The suspect is now in the custody of the CIDG while charges of graft and estafa are being prepared against them.
