Teacher gunned down in Batangas

BATANGAS, Philippines – A 48-year-old teacher was shot dead by motorcycle-riding men in Rosario town Thursday afternoon, police said yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Omega Fidel, Batangas police director, identified the victim as Macario Perez, head of the Gregorio Sison Memorial Elementary School in Barangay Munting Tubig in Ibaan, Batangas.

A police report said Perez was waiting for a bus along the highway in Barangay Poblacion at around 3:30 p.m. when he was gunned down.

The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at the Maderazo Hospital.                              

”We condemn the killing and we call on authorities to act swiftly and bring justice to teacher Macario, his family and the community he has selflessly served the past years,” Education Secretary Armin Luistro said in a statement.
