LPA to bring rains over Visayas, Mindanao

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A low-pressure area (LPA) was spotted yesterday off the Pacific Ocean and could bring rains over the eastern section of the Visayas and Mindanao in the next few days.

Jori Loiz, senior weather forecaster of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said the LPA was forecast to enter the Philippine area of responsibility within the next 24 hours.

“It has a high probability of intensifying into a low pressure area or even a tropical depression,” Loiz told The STAR.

He said the weather disturbance could bring heavy rains over eastern Visayas and northeast Mindanao.

PAGASA said the next tropical cyclone would be named “Queenie.” Five more cyclones are likely to enter the country before the yearend.

PAGASA said the Bicol region and Samar provinces would have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned the public against moderate to rough seas in Northern Luzon.
