Japan to turn over emergency vehicles to Yolanda-hit areas
MANILA, Philippines - The Japanese government will donate additional emergency vehicles to local government units (LGUs) in Eastern Visayas that were affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda.
Ambassador Kazuhide Ishikawa will turn over the vehicles to Gen. Ariel Barayuga, officer-in-charge of the Bureau of Fire Protection, today.
The project was funded through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects of the Japanese government.
Kenji Kosaka, a member of the House of Councilors of Japan and president of the Japan-Philippines Parliamentarians’ Friendship League, and Senate President Franklin Drilon will attend the turnover ceremony.
Japan earlier donated 20 emergency vehicles, consisting of 17 fire trucks and three ambulances, to Yolanda-hit LGUs.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health reported that the rehabilitation of Yolanda-damaged health facilities in Leyte and Samar is now 60 percent complete. – Rainier Allan Ronda, Pia Lee-Brago, Ricky Bautista
