ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Another improvised explosive device (IED) was discovered along the road in Lamitan City, Basilan yesterday.
City police chief Senior Inspector Gean Gallardo said the IED was attached to an electric post of Basilan Electric Co. in Purok 8, Barangay Colonial at around 7 a.m.
This was the second IED found within 24 hours, after residents discovered the first near one of the classrooms of Colonia Elementary School Monday.
Gallardo said personnel from the 39th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit defused the bomb, which he said was similar than the one recovered from the school.
Authorities were trying to determine if the bombs were part of the explosives manufactured and slipped by the group of Furuji Indama, whose camp – which served as a bomb factory – was overrun by government security forces in Tipo-Tipo town last week.
