Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY - A driver was killed while five were injured when a 10-wheeler trailer truck loaded with boxes of bottled soda overturned along the highway in Tungawan town, Zamboanga Sibugay province, before dawn Tuesday.

Police said the truck (BUC 197) driven by Wilfredo Mahilum was speeding along the highway in Barangay Langon when it met the accident at around 4:30 a.m. The truck was bound for Buug town in Zamboanga Sibugay.

Police said that based on initial investigations, the truck's breaks malfunctioned. The crash killed Mahilum and injured his two companions identified as Reneboy Fabe and Tomasito Cabatas.

Three road workers, meanwhile, were hurt after they were hit by the soda bottles thrown by the truck after the crash.
