Slain cab driver's family gets P150K
MANILA, Philippines - The family of a taxi driver shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Quezon City on Wednesday will receive P150,000 death insurance, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said.
Under the Board's all-risk Personal Passenger Acccident Insurance (PPAI) program, the family of slain taxi driver Norberto Cruz is entitled to death benefits.
An unidentified gunman, who had killed a hairstylist in a beauty salon in Quezon City, shot Cruz dead when he refused to open is taxi cab.
"Nakakalungkot ang sinapit ng taxi driver sa insidente kaya naman agad kaming umaksyon upang mabigyan nga kaukulang benepisyo ang kanyang pamilya ayon sa isinasaad ng ating transport regulations," LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez said.
Cruz’s family will receive a P150,0000 death insurance benefit under the LTFRB's PPAI program.
SCCI Management & Insurance Co, the management company of one of the accredited insurance consortia of the LTFRB, will arrange the payment of the death benefits to the victim’s family.
Previously, victims of road accidents involving PUVs only receive P75,000 death benefits.
After reviewing the program, the Board in cooperation with its accredited insurance companies insurance members, adjusted the benefits and increased the coverage to P150,000.
"Patuloy ang pakikipagtulungan at ugnayan natin sa mga insurance companies, Insurance Commission at iba pang sangay ng ating pamahalaan ng sa gayon agad nating matugunan ang pangangailangan at welfare ng mga [pasahero]," Ginez added.
