3 soldiers wounded in Ilocos NPA attack

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Three soldiers were wounded when suspected New People’s Army guerrillas attacked a military detachment in Barangay Bugbuga in Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur Monday night.

Privates Rey Bajar, Sam Garote and Jasep Bayugan, who were rushed to Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija, were declared in stable condition.

81st Infantry Battalion commander Lt. Col. Jason Bajet said the attack occurred at around 8:30 p.m.

Ilocos Sur police director Senior Superintendent Nestor Felix said intelligence reports show that communist rebels are now operating in Sta. Cruz, Sta Lucia and Salcedo towns in Ilocos Sur.
