MANILA, Philippines - A total of 20 devices for Automated Weather Station (AWS) are now operational in Davao region.
The instruments, which send data of rainfall, humidity and temperature every minute, were calibrated by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration and approved by the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development.
The Ateneo de Davao University and the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) as co-implementing agencies, along with Davao del Norte State College, University of the Philippines – Mindanao, and Southern Philippines Agri-business and Marine Aquatic School of Technology spearheaded the launching of the AWS.
The AWS project titled "The Establishment of Mesoscale Meteorological Monitoring Infractructure in Davao City" was executed in accordance with the agreement between the cooperating government agencies and schools.
"Overall, the installation of the AWS is just the beginning. The cooperating agencies are still planning to upgrade the instruments in order to provide better public service," a statement from USeP, said.

"The link can be accessed anywhere through the Internet hence, residents can opt to check the weather in different locations first before making important decisions on a daily basis," USeP said.
