Fair weather seen this week

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Fair weather is expected in most parts of the country this week, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.

PAGASA senior weather forecaster Jori Loiz, however, said the agency is monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) in the Pacific Ocean.

Loiz said the LPA is still too far to affect any part of the country, adding it will be named Queenie once it intensifies into a cyclone.

Loiz said the northeast monsoon or amihan would continue to bring cooler temperatures and light rains in the Northern and Central Luzon in the next three days.

Cagayan Valley, the Cordilleras, Ilocos region and Central Luzon will have partly cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Loiz said the northeast monsoon would bring colder temperatures in the country in the coming days and weeks.

Last Friday, the weather bureau recorded the coldest temperatures in Metro Manila and Baguio City since the start of the northeast monsoon this year at 19.7 and 12.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.
