2 killed in Pangasinan hostage crisis

ASINGAN, Pangasinan, Philippines – Two persons were killed during a hostage-taking incident at a public market in Barangay Poblacion West here yesterday.

Chief Inspector Charlie Angyaon, police chief here, told The STAR Orlando Victorio, a resident of Barangay Unzad in Villasis town, held hostage Zyrell Amery Rebucak, 11, at around 6 a.m. when policemen responded to a complaint that the suspect had wounded Herminio Ilumin, the husband of his sister-in-law.

As negotiations to release the victim failed, Victorio shot the girl and fired at policemen.

Victorio, who was wounded in the exchange of gunfire,  was pronounced dead on arrival at the Asingan Community Hospital. Rebucak died while being treated in the same hospital.
