CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Three military personnel and a civilian employee were killed and five others were wounded when the military truck they were riding fell into a ravine in Ternate, Cavite yesterday morning.
Senior Superintendent Joselito Esquivel, Cavite police director, said three of the passengers died at the scene while the fourth victim died while being treated in a hospital.
The wounded are being treated at the hospital at the Gregorio Lim Marine Base in Naic, Cavite and a private hospital also in Naic.
Military officials have yet to identify the victims.
Esquivel said the driver lost control of the wheel when the vehicle suffered engine trouble.
In a statement, Navy spokesman Col. Edgard Arevalo said the truck was passing through a winding road when it fell into a deep ravine at the vicinity of Kantuba Hill at around 9:30 a.m.
He said the fatalities were stationed at the Marine base.
“Vice Admiral Jesus Millan and Marine Corps Commandant Maj. Gen. Romeo Tanalgo have expressed their condolences to the bereaved families,” Arevalo said. – With Alexis Romero
