MANILA, Philippines - Two soldiers were killed after they were ambushed by gunmen who are allegedly members of the New People's Army in Albay province, a radio report said on Monday.
Quoting Senior Superintendent Marlo Meneses, Albay Police Provincial Office director, the report said that the two soldiers with the rank of Private First Class, just came from the market when they were fired upon by armed men, believed to be communist rebels.
The ambush on the two, who were riding in tandem on a motorcycle, happened at the boundary of Barangays Maopi and Anislag in Daraga, Albay, reports said.
Government troops are now conducting hot pursuit operations against the armed group.
