2 NPA rebels killed in Davao encounter

MANILA, Philippines - Two suspected communist rebels were killed in an encounter with Army soldiers in Kapalong, Davao del Norte on Wednesday. 

Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command spokesman Capt. Alberto Caber said the 50-minute clash occurred at past 3 p.m. in Sitio Kimataan II in Barangay Gupitan.

 Caber said the soldiers also recovered assorted high-powered firearms.

 “There was no casualty on the government side,” he said. 

Meanwhile, Capt. Ernest Carolina, spokesman for the Army’s 10th division, said the body of former NPA member Arnel Recta was discovered in Barangay Dalagdag in Buhangin, Davao City on Tuesday.

Carolina said the victim had five bullet wounds in the head. – Alexis Romero, Tess McClure, Edith Regalado
