Oil spill at Pangasinan power plant contained
SUAL, Pangasinan, Philippines – An oil spill at a power plant here was contained minutes after it was detected before dawn yesterday.
An emergency rescue team repaired a pipe of the Sual power station that ruptured at around 2:26 a.m.
“By 3 a.m., the valve was isolated and the leak controlled,” said Froilan Gregory Romualdez III, external affairs head of Team Energy that operates the plant, in a statement.
Romualdez said they reported the incident to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Department of Energy.
“We are assessing the extent of the leak and have taken additional measures to mitigate any impact this may have,” he said.
Romualdez said an investigation is being conducted to avoid a repeat of the incident.
