BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A member of a government militia was killed in an attack by three suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas in Guihul-ngan City, Negros Oriental last Thursday.

Joel Villanosa of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit died from several gunshot wounds, said Lt. Col. Paulito Idul, commander of the Army’s 11th Infantry Battalion.

Idul said the gunmen were believed to be members of the NPA Special Partisan Unit (SPARU) of the Central Negros Front.

Villanosa, who was assigned at the Linantuyan Detachment, was about to take a jeepney to Barangay Sikatuna when the assailants shot him, Idul said.
