NPA leader with P4.8-M bounty falls

MANILA, Philippines - A New People’s Army (NPA) leader with a P4.8 million bounty on his head was arrested in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Thursday.

Dominiciano Muya was nabbed at a checkpoint in Barangay Mankilam at around 1:45 p.m., according to reports reaching the Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom).

Muya’s arrest was based on warrants for robbery with double homicide, damage to property, multiple murder and double frustrated murder issued by two local courts.

Known by the aliases Marco and Atoy, Muya was tagged in the killing of Police Officers 1 Marito Correos and Rey Ejercito in Agusan del Sur in 2004 and the killing of 2nd Lt. Lucresio Julampong Jr. in Davao Oriental in 2009.

A caliber. 45 pistol, a hand grenade and two  mobile phones were seized from the suspect.

Eastmincom spokesman Capt. Alberto Caber said Muya was a staff member of the Communist Party of the Philippines-Northeastern Mindanao committee and a former secretary of a local guerrilla front.

Maj. Gen. Eduardo Año, chief of the Army’s 10th  division, said Muya’s capture was “another major setback” to the communist movement.
