MANILA, Philippines - Police arrested before dawn Friday the tricycle driver accused of raping a 17-year-old student of the University of the Philippines- Los Banos while on her home from a event in school.
Joseph Montecillo,26, was captured by the Laguna police around 12:45 a.m. while hiding in his aunt's house in Calauan town, a radio report said.
The report said that police was able to trace Montecillo to his aunt's house after he sent a letter, through a sibling, to his live-in partner confined at a hospital after giving birth to their fifth child.
In the letter, Montecillo told his common law wife to take care of their children as he will be in hiding because of what he did, the report said.
Initial investigations showed that on Friday last week, the victim boarded a tricycle in Barangay Maahas around 10 p.m.
The suspect then brought her to a dimlylit portion of the IPB Road in Barangay Putho Tuntungin and raped the student.
Police will file criminal charges against Montecillo after he is positively identified by the victim.
