Rape, theft suspect hurt in shootout

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – An alleged drug trafficker wanted for rape and theft cases was wounded in an encounter with soldiers who were serving a warrant for his arrest in Maitum, Sarangani Tuesday.

Norhan Guiambolanan, 38, suffered a gunshot in the abdomen and was rushed to a hospital for treatment before he was turned over to the police.

Reports said the suspect allegedly fired at soldiers from the 7th Marine Battalion who were serving a warrant in his hideout in Barangay Maguling.

Aside from rape and theft cases, the suspect was allegedly engaged in shabu trafficking in Maitum town and in the nearby municipality of Palimbang in Sultan Kudarat.

Marine Lt. Col. Chute Ade-cer said civilian informants led the soldiers to Guiambolanan’s  hideout.
