Man, son arrested for dog’s slay

ILOILO CITY, Philippines – A man and his son were arrested Tuesday for allegedly killing a neighbor’s dog last year in Alimodian, Iloilo.

Quirico Andoloy and his son, Jocel, both of Barangay Sinamay, were charged for killing and eating the meat of a six-month-old pitbull.

The incident occurred in March 2013, but the arrest warrants for the suspects were issued only last Monday.

A bail of P4,000 each was recommended for the suspects.

Dog owner Ryan Dignadice was elated by the suspects’ arrest, saying it was a first step toward attaining justice for his pet.

Quirico denied participa-ting in the killing, saying his son did it.

Jocel owned up to the crime, but claimed he thought nobody owned the dog.

Meanwhile, in South Cotabato, a family is blaming a dog for the death of their father.

Danny Awan Salif, said to be a relative of Lake Sebu Mayor Basilio Salif, died after an improvised shotgun that he was carrying on his back went off.

A report from the provincial police said a dog jumped on Salif’s back as he was attending to his farm in Barangay Lamfugon Wednesday.      – With Ramil Bajo
