3 kids die after eating turtle meat

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – Three children died while their parents were hospitalized after eating sea turtle meat in Irosin town, Sorsogon Sunday.

The victims were identified as Jose Bernard Alon, 5, and his siblings Jacob, 3, and one-year-old Jovelyn. Their parents Pio and Theresa are still confined at the Irosin District Hospital (IDH).

Investigation showed Theresa bought the meat from a certain Norman Gacias, an ambulant vendor, and cooked it for lunch.

After eating, the children reportedly experienced dizziness, vomiting and stomach pains.

IDH doctor Maxima Gonzales confirmed that the meat was the cause of the poisoning.

The municipal government banned the eating of sea turtle meat after the incident.
