MANILA, Philippines — A 47-second video went viral Friday showing a young boy crying after an unidentified man took his hard-earned P200 from selling bread roll or pandesal.
Facebook user Christopher Pacheco uploaded the video, taken in Deparo, Caloocan on Friday of the unnamed boy, sitting on the sidewalk with a styrofoam box, weeping and shaking.
The video has been shared almost 20,000 times on the social network, as netizens condemned crimes against the less fortunate.
Residents were seen in the video trying to calm down the fifth grader, who complained of a "mama" (adult man) who threatened him and stolehis hard-earned money as well as the bread he was selling.
In an interview with dzMM, the boy's mother said he would buy pandesal daily from a nearby bakery to sell to neighbors before he goes to school. She said the boy uses the money to pay for his fare and food.
After the incident, however, her son no longer wanted to sell bread and instead asked her to bring him to school for fear that the man would return.
The family is now coordinating with police after the video spread online as netizens urged that the suspect be apprehended.
